Greys G-Series breathable chest waders
Very good “budget” chest waders that really are tough as old boots and last the course for saltwater fishing. More basic in cut and design than say the more expensive Greys Platinum waders, but for the money these G-Series ones are excellent, and I have worn mine lots and lots. If you are looking for a pair then make sure to order a size larger than you would usually take – I have no idea why this is, but I usually take an XL wader, and in the G-Series I need to take an XXL (double XL) to get a comfortable fit for all that walking and scrambling. A great way into the world of “proper” chest waders.

Greys Platinum breathable chest waders
For some time now the Greys Platinum breathable chest waders have been my go-to waders for virtually all my fishing and a lot of my photography. I virtually live in them, and apart from the inbuilt gravel guards that do not really last the course at all, I simply can not fault these Platinum waders. I am wishing that Hardy Greys might one day put the excellent gravel guards from the Hardy EWS2 waders on to the Greys Platinum ones and then I reckon you have the perfect pair of waders for saltwater fishing. They just work really well for me. I like the cut of them (XL for me, plenty of room to move), and they are good to wear in any kinds of weather and conditions. They seem pretty tough for a pair of waders, but as with all of them I expect to rip them if I fall over or slip on sharp rocks. Waders are easy to patch up. Not half as appealing as rods, reels and lures, but my chest waders to me are arguably the most important piece of fishing tackle I regularly use.

Regular waterproof top
I really like the new Greys Apollo Extreme waterproof jackets and smocks for our more “regular” shore and boat fishing, but even then they are light enough to wear if you are moving around a lot. Out of choice I tend to go for the smock and it my view it seems that little bit easier to wear for fishing.

Under Armour ColdGear
When the weather is colder then I wear these Under Armour ColdGear leggings and compression top under my breathable waders. Why does this stuff work so well ? I have no idea, but it’s awesome. Gone are the days of having to wear heavy, bulky gear that keeps you warm but is a pain to move around in. I like the simple, “unglamorous “ stuff that just does the job.

Under Armour HeatGear leggings
Believe me, I have tried any number of different kinds of trousers and leggings to wear under my waders through spring, summer and into early autumn – the warmer times of the year essentially. These Under Armour HeatGear leggings just work so, so well. OK, so they’re not designed for using under waders, but take it from me – they are brilliant.

Waterproof wading jacket
I have put the Greys GRXi wading jacket through a living hell for over two years now, and still it is my heavy duty waterproof top of choice - for bass fishing it just plain awesome. I have used plenty of others, but like a favourite lure, this is my “go to” jacket for when I want to remain dry and warm whatever the conditions. A few friends of mine also rate this thing as highly as me. More and more sea anglers here in the UK and Ireland are beginning to use fly fishing clothing for their own saltwater fishing. The shorter length wading-style jackets are really useful for a lot of our more mobile sea fishing. I rate this waterproof jacket as amongst the very best fishing items I have ever owned, and I do not say that lightly. Until I can find something significantly better, I’ll keep on wearing mine.
