Don’t worry, it’s all going to be ok, because the esteemed George Eustice says that gill netting is “low impact” - thank god for that then

If you are remotely concerned about the impact on various fish stocks via the commercial practise known as gill netting, then worry no more and jump for joy that our fishing stocks are in fact going to be just fine. How do I know this? Because none other than George Eustice, MP for Camborne, Redruth & Hayle Minister of State at DEFRA declared before Xmas that gill netting was low impact. I don’t envy politicians having to front up and lie to us while trying to keep a straight face, but in the history of fisheries politics I reckon this one has to be up there. There is a good chance that you will not have seen this excellent letter from somebody who I hugely respect to our esteemed commercial fishing specialist George Eustice, so below is this letter itself, and you can find the original right here. Have a good weekend and enjoy this awesome news that gill netting in fact doesn’t do much harm at all to our inshore waters. Phew, what a relief!!
