Friday rumblings.....

Wow, what a response to my post on Monday about crushing barbs etc. - thanks to all of you who read it, took the time to comment, emailed me, and also commented about it on my Facebook page (see here). Seems from the overwhelming tone of the feedback that there are more of you into the whole crushing barbs thing that I had thought, so that is great news. And the fact that some of you have said that you will now start doing so really makes me feel that the whole subject was very much worth bringing up. When you are out and about, do all you can to get across to other lure anglers you see that potentially nine barbed hooks just is not the way forward........

I was extremely honoured to be asked to participate in an online interview by the guys at the Dutch barbel website barbeel.com - Rinko Oosterveen asked me various questions about fishing, metal and photography, and since these are my three favourite things it was obviously a pleasure to be involved. Check out the interview here. It's in English by the way - practically every single Dutch person I have ever met speaks almost better English than I do !! There is also a very cool interview on the site with Norwegian fishing junkie and drummer for one of the world's greatest metal bands on there - read Cato Bekkevold's interview here. I can not tell you how off the scale immense Enslaved's new album "Axioma Ethica Odini" is. Album of the year ? Easily.

Check out a stunning short fly fishing film about some truly insane and inspirational fishing here. There are more and more of these short fly fishing films being made, and I hope that perhaps we will begin to see some other kinds of fishing coming across like this in short films etc. Imagine how you could do say bass fishing if you went to town on it............the mind is rumbling away as ever.

Talking about films, I got to see a "close to being locked down" cut of my two younger brothers' upcoming feature film the other night. I got to London, did some work with the Adventure Fishing magazine people about Issue 3 and onwards, and then took the tube to Soho to watch my brothers' new film in their editing suite. The title is most likely going to be "A Lonely Place to Die", and it is looking just awesome. It's a hugely tense, nail biting and at the same time stunning kind of kidnap/chase film through the Scottish highlands. I don't want to give too much away, and I can't wait to see the finished film up on the big screen, but I am hugely proud of their achievement in making this film. I loved it. There is a Facebook page about the film here, and there are more details here.

Talking about the fishing magazine "Adventure Fishing", the new issue is coming out in shops now. I can't believe how good it is looking, seriously, it makes me feel massively grown up to be involved in a project like this, and it is really opening my eyes up to kind of be on the other side of the fence as well. I am a freelancer by trade, but with this magazine I am having to work on the editing/planning side of things as well. What an eye-opener. Talk about learning all the time. When I get the PDFs I will post a load of stuff from the new issue up on this blog. In my opinion the latest issue is looking even stronger........

I am heading over to Ireland next week for some more bass fishing and photography, as well as helping Cian out with his official Open Day for his new tackle shop "Absolute Fishing" in Tramore - if you are anywhere near, come along between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday 24th October. If you don't know where the shop is, give the guys a shout, but it's really easy to find in the bass epicentre that is Tramore in southern Ireland. Check here for contact details. Hope to see you there, but be very careful in Cian's shop - there is far too much nice bass fishing stuff for sale !! I need to avert my eyes from the huge wall that is festooned with all manner of hard and soft lures. As regards the fishing, we could do with getting some south back in the wind, but as always we will take what we get and make it work as best as possible. I love the place, but then you have probably guessed that already if you read this blog........
